Breakfast Briefing with Richard Perks, Director of Retail Research, Mintel

Invitation to a ‘Breakfast Briefing’

for Retail Chairmen, CEOs and Investors

Guest Speaker- Richard Perks, Director of Retail Research, Mintel

We would be delighted if you could join us at Quaglino’s, London, to hear Richard Perk’s prognosis retailing in 2011 following the analysis Christmas results, on Wednesday 2nd February 2011.

Richard will be looking at what this recession has meant for both the consumer and retailer, and how some of the surprises such as resilient consumer spending are of massive significance.

In the worst recession in modern times, when the consumer has been forced to reappraise spending priorities, it is those areas beyond the weekly shop that have seen most of the cuts and retail has held its ground.  But can that really continue to be the case when consumers are faced with rising taxes and unemployment, to say nothing of rising interest rates as well.  2011 is going to be tough for retailers and probably the toughest year of this recession.

Richard is Mintel’s Director of Retail Research. Richard comments to the national and trade press on retail and consumer issues, advises clients and writes retail reports.

Richard joined Mintel in 1999 and previously headed the Retail team, overseeing the content and strategy of the retail reports. Before joining Mintel, he worked as a City analyst and as a journalist. He has a BSc in Maths and an MSc in Management Science.

Richard is widely quoted on retail and consumer matters in the national press, including The Times, the Daily Telegraph and the Financial Times. He contributes to BBC, ITV and Channel 4 news programmes, as well as to Bloomberg, CNBC and Reuters TV. He often comments on retail issues for national and local radio including BBC Radio 4's You and Yours and Today programmes.  In addition to his extensive media presence, Richard also judges industry awards, including the 2009 Retail Industry Awards.
