Breakfast Briefing, with Sir Richard Lapthorne, Chairman of Cable & Wireless, discussing the 'make-up of a good board'.
Topic - The Future Board of Directors
What will tomorrow’s Board of Directors look like, and will the composition change over the next 5-10 years? Richard Lapthorne does not have the definitive answer, but he is an advocate of a diverse board, and forward thinking in his approach; Cable and Wireless has twice as many women on the board as the FTSE 100 average, and it is currently the only FTSE 100 firms where the HR Director sits on the main board.
Prior to Cable and Wireless, Richard was Chairman of Amersham plc (now GE Healthcare) having joined its Board as a Non-executive Director in 1988. He was Finance Director of British Aerospace plc and Vice Chairman from 1998 until his retirement in 1999. Richard is Non-executive Chairman of the McLaren Group, a Non-executive Director of McLaren Automotive and a trustee of Tommy’s Campaign, the charity researching still and premature birth.
The breakfast briefing is designed to encourage peer dialog and thought-leadership exchanges, and I would be delighted if you could join us. Breakfast will be served at 8am and we aim to finish punctually at 9.30am.
